and now the continuation!
Just so everyone knows, i plan on haveing the fifth level in a class cap, my world just hasn't developed skills beyond that and there aren't ussually class-based guilds. (though you might see something like a Merchants Guild that primarly employs the amazon and thiefly types...)
I also am ONLY having PC's be of the five basic races. My world does include some of the specialty races, like gnomes and , of course, orcs but those are only NPC races (at least for now).

The world is low magic in that it certainly exists and towns generally have a mage or two available to perform ressurections on those who can afford it. But for the most part though the common people are uncomfortable with it and view magic-users as untrustworthy and dangeous, but tend to grudgingly accept the few that are employed by the government or those that fill a sort of healer/shaman/priestly role. "Rouge" wizards tend to be greatly distrusted if not actively persecuted. PC's are not likely to become mages, but it is a possiblity.

Speaking of government, "Nations", where they exist, tend to be a city-state with a few vassals or otherwise associated villages. In other areas, especially the mountains and deserts to the north, things are in a more tribal, pro-thong sort of a state.

And on the topic of geography, the climate is somewhat interesting in that the southeast's climate tend towards rainy weather, like the american northwest (but not quite so 24/7) whereas the northwest is a more arid, desert region (though not sandy everywhere, more sunscorched earth and rock). The high range of mountains running between the two regions are the reason for this as rain clouds comming in off the sea tend to get caught up over the high peaks and stall there, raining out over the southwest and creating snow on the higher mountains.

We'll be starting out in the province of Athrindel in the town of Athrindel, more commonly refered to as Stonetree. Stonetree is a town on the southern coast, just south of the Red Wood (which is a redwood forest suprise surprise!) It is a neutral good town and is the city-state in control of the province.

Well, if you have any questions just post 'em or PM me.

Great to hear you are doing a Thursday event. Don't forget to call all the Saint Helena players personally tomorrow to remind them. You won't believe the difference in turn out between a phone call and an email. It makes a big difference so call people. IF you need numbers I can send them to you.

PostPosted: Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:46 pm    Post subject: New World Reply with quote

Hello Tyson:

Your world sounds absoulutely awesome! Well thought out, excellent cultural aspects that make people really want to explore this world. As I said to Jeff, I recommend that you (a) Stick to one town to start and really flesh it out and leave the world exploring for later in the campain when your world is becomming more familiar to you, and (b) that you stick to your initial plans to have low level characters and don't change even if people complain or whine. It forces them to think differently and that is fun! Stick to your plan and you will see a whole new style of FanWar emerge and is unique to your world and it will be priceless!
A note about people who become Mages. I think that you might want to consider roll play restirctions on being a mage as well. In order to be consistent with your game world, if anyone ever became a mage they should have to behave in line with your description of mages (i.e. they should be excentirc and unpredictable, obsessed with the power that they have to use. The friendly Gandalf types would be all the more rare that way and having a mage in your party would be dangerous for the PC's as well (which is how you want them to feel about mages). You could even make it a requirement that in order to play a mage in YOUR world the player has to have over one year of experience (like my rule for playing NPC Species). That way you can be sure they will be able to rollplay it correctly. This may not be necessary but it was a thought I had.
I hope I can come sometime.

Christopher

well, I'm sure they are there, no one ever wants to fight goblins. They're too wookie easy for people who are, like, first in a class. It's always attacking the Dark City or something cool like that. Also no one wants to cause at higher levels, you get like 1/8th of an experience. Also, I'd like to point out Jeff had a shitload of goblins at the last event i went to. (no need mentioning you guys got sloughtered- not that I could do better)
